K-Search

Aims
K-Search is a revolutionary new application based on Semantic Web technology enabling advanced search and knowledge retrieval on large distributed collections of document and semantic stores. It uses unique hybrid methodology that provides the user flexibility of a keyword search system as well as precision of ontology based search. It also enables search from purview of disparate communities in that different views on same information can be created by the user allowing better contextualization leading to superior user comfort satisfaction. K-Search has been proven to be very effective and user friendly in extensive evaluation activity carried out at Rolls-Royce Plc. a large organization dealing in huge amounts of heterogeneous critical data produced around the world.Achievements
- Runner-up winner for “Best Idea” at Rolls-Royce Plc. R&T Director's Creativity Awards (through online-voting done by Rolls-Royce employees)
- Patent application for K-Search has been made
- Exploitation of K-Search technology is already underway by Knowledge Now Ltd.

Project Plan
K-Search has been developed at The University of Sheffield, by Web Intelligence Technologies Group. The project was commenced under Integrated Products and Services project funded by DTi and Rolls-Royce.Having received positive feedback and an extremely successful evaluation, K-Search technology has been productionised and integrated with other technologies by Knowledge Now Ltd. Knowledge Now will continue to add features and improve K-Search in the future.
